Options

People always say that they'd rather not be just an option, but the only choice. But I say, if you don't have options, you won't have a choice, now would you?

No matter what you say, you would always be an option, regardless if there is someone else aiming for that someone. Because that someone would always have a choice between at least two options, may you have or have no rival for his or her affections. That someone could choose you, and then again he or she could not. But I see what they mean by being "just an option", though, in the midst of someone else. Being an option may just be synonymous to being a fall-back, being a back-up.. but that's not always the case. Well, in my opinion that is.

Let's just see this in a completely different light.

Because, given a choice.. wouldn't it be sweeter, more uplifting, if you were just an option but the person chose you amidst the presence of someone you thought was better than you? Amidst the presence of someone who could surpass the ideals you envision of yourself? Being an option doesn't have to be "just", especially if you're the best option there is. But if you were... disregarded, for a lackof a better term, sure you were "just an option" for that someone, but his choice of letting you go could be a door that would lead you to someone who, this time, would view you not as the "last resort" but as the "only choice".
